When Eddie Meeks and DJ Jon Doe first met at Egon and Count Bass D’s college radio show at Vanderbilt University, they had no idea it would be anything more than a freestyle or two and an interview. From that one meeting, Jon Doe became a part of Meeks’ and Mello Melanin's group, PROPHETIX, and a lifelong bond was forged through beats, rhymes, and bourbon. Together and solo, Meeks and Doe released incredible music and started Southern Vangard Radio, one of the premier podcasts representing underground hip-hop, which has been running for eight years and has featured countless artists before they were featured by major media outlets and record labels. But this is more than a story about a hip-hop group or podcast. This is the story of reinvention, of purpose, and, perhaps most importantly, friendship.
